Viola Davis made history this Sunday when she won Outstanding Actress in a Drama for How to Get Away with Murder which made her the first African American to win in this category. I absolutely loved her speech. She could have soaked in all of the applause and remain silent on the larger issue. But instead, she decided to shed light on the lack of opportunity for women of color in the entertainment industry. Not only that, she also applauded others in her field for rising up despite the odds against them and helping change society’s view of a leading lady.
